Summer 2019 Research Assistant

EDR Group is seeking a research assistant with interest in transportation and economic analysis at our downtown Boston headquarters.

A successful candidate will have training or experience in transportation, plus economic or sociodemographic analysis. Candidates should understand how infrastructure impacts people and the economy and have an interest in work evaluating transportation projects, programs, and policies.

Depending on a candidate’s skills and interests, a research assistant may support activities related to:

  • Spatial analysis of differences in travel patterns and equity implications
  • Travel behaviour and mode choice analysis using surveys and other datasets
  • Accessibility analysis – technical, policy-level and operational aspects
  • Tools and factors for economic benefit assessment
  • Connected and autonomous vehicle and electric vehicle planning or policy
  • Emerging technologies and new transportation business models
  • Multimodal project prioritization and programming
  • Scenario planning and forecasting for long range planning
  • Performance management, metrics, and reporting
  • Broader economic evaluation methods

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Pursuit of a degree related to transportation, urban/regional planning, public policy, or economics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a research team

Desirable technical skills include:

  • Statistical analysis, econometric modelling, forecasting, or risk analysis
  • Spatial analysis and mapmaking in QGIS, ArcGIS, or web tools
  • Programming, survey analytics and data visualization in R or Python
