Planning and Policy Analyst

Economic Development Research Group (EDR Group) has an immediate opening for a consultant with expertise in economic development and/or transportation planning and policy analysis, with a mix of strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.

 

The position involves consulting on the economic implications of infrastructure-related projects, programs, and policies. It will be within a team working with a variety of clients, from local agencies to national and international research programs, on both small advisory engagements and major research efforts. Key policy topics of interest include processes for project prioritization and program resource allocation, connectivity and accessibility, sustainability and resiliency, economic impacts of smart growth and business clusters, and transportation pricing economics.

The position will work with agencies and other consulting firms in the application of EDR Group’s tools for project planning, prioritizing and funding decision-making, as well as conduct custom analysis. Work at EDR Group encompasses infrastructure and economic development at a variety of settings and scales. The role will also involve presentation of research findings to clients and professional organizations.

Required Qualifications:

* A Master’s Degree or equivalent in economics, transportation engineering, urban/regional planning, or public policy, or at least two (2) years of work in equivalent fields; 

* Excellent English speaking and report writing skills, plus an ability to communicate effectively with clients and others in a research team. 

Desired Skills:

* Experience with economic evaluation and decision support tools and methods; 

* Writing for a wide variety of audiences and formats, such as research reports, technical memos, and public education pieces;

* Spatial analysis (QGIS or ArcGIS) and familiarity with spatial data sources;

* Statistical analysis, economic analysis, and risk analysis (using Excel, R, Stata, etc.) and the visual communication of results from such analysis; 

* Land use models, travel demand models and simulation systems; and
