ASCE Transportation Investment Report

July 27, 2011: Today, the American Society of Civil Engineers released a report, entitled "Failure to Act: The Economic Impact of Current Investment Trends In Surface Transportation Infrastructure," which was a study performed by EDR Group.

The firm assessed the long term economic consequences of current infrastructure investment patterns and funding levels. The purpose of the project was to develop an objective analysis of the economic and social impacts due to changing costs to business and households, constraints on ability of economy to grow, and loss of international competiveness for American industries. The specific categories of infrastructure examined are surface transportation, water delivery and wastewater treatment, energy delivery systems, airports and marine ports. The key findings of the study included that failing to invest in transportation will cause job loss and shrink household incomes.
