Transportation Cornerstone Florida: Moving Florida's Economy into the 21st Century

Florida is a leader in tourism, global trade and technology-based manufacturing, but its economic growth has also led to significant pressure on the state's transportation resources. The result is a massive need for future infrastructure investment. Business leaders recognized the need to clarify how Florida's transportation system must change to meet new challenges and support growth of the state's economy, and to assess how transportation investment decisions can affect the state's economic competitiveness.

To address these needs, the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation commissioned a team of Cambridge Systematics, Economic Development Research Group and the Economic Competitiveness Group to conduct the Transportation Cornerstone study. The study focused on linkages between infrastructure, business logistics, and economic competitiveness in Florida's key industry clusters, and defined statewide infrastructure investment priorities to maximizes Florida's economic and transportation opportunities.

Staff of Economic Development Research Group conducted interviews of regional planning agencies, air/sea ports and industry leaders, to identify economic development and transportation issues facing three key business clusters: trade, high-tech, and tourism.
